The digital transformation drive has completely changed organisations’ operational and technological architectures. SaaS, cloud and now AI have brought with them a wealth of fiscal and productivity benefits, however, they have also led to increased organisational complexity and, from a cybersecurity perspective, a considerably expanded attack surface.
AI has equipped malicious actors with tools to relentlessly poke organisations’ defences to find weaknesses. Cyberattacks can have devastating financial and reputational impacts on enterprises, and in the case of critical infrastructure organisations, serious implications for communities and societies at large. This means that for organisations today, cybersecurity cannot be seen as a one-time capital expenditure. Rather, it is a financial risk management discipline; a permanent operating commitment to ensure organisational business continuity and resilience.
As such, organisations require cybersecurity partners they can trust, that themselves are built on stable footings that can withstand market shifts. Partners that are reliable yet are at the cutting edge of research and development. Fortinet’s ability to innovate and invest, without sacrificing profitability, helps provide certainty to customers.
Stability and innovation are the perfect match
For over two decades, Fortinet has shown the world that long-term technological leadership and fiscal resilience are tightly intertwined. Understanding very early on that scale and longevity are integral to global digital transformation, Fortinet foresaw the need for an integrated architecture capable of tackling an increasingly sophisticated threat landscape. This has led Fortinet to put continued focus on research and development (R&D), to sustain leadership and organic innovation within our strategic market priorities. Fortinet has always worked on the long game, choosing architectural integrity over short-term market trends or the optics of financial wins. This stability and durability allow for a continuous cycle of deep and thoughtful investment in technology that in turn delivers market-leading performance and innovation that subsequently fuels the next generation of R&D. Our record-breaking earnings results in Q1 2026 are in large part because of this approach.
Fortinet’s 15-year investment programme in artificial intelligence (AI) is evidence of this strategy’s success. Long before the current wave of AI enthusiasm driven by the new crop of large language models (LLMs), Fortinet was working on integrating AI into its internal operations and product suites, amassing over 500 AI patents to date. beholden to boom-and-bust cycles also meant that we were able to stay the course on investments that benefit customers in the long-term. Our proprietary security processor FortiASIC, for example, delivers the compute power needed to keep pace with the demands of AI-driven technology today. Our strategy of considered research and investment is paying off: as AI-driven attacks increase the demand for high-performance traffic inspection, Fortinet delivers an advantage that off-the-shelf processors are unable to match. This most recent quarter’s success is the direct harvest of this virtuous cycle of long-term innovation enabled by long-term financial stability.
From a market perspective, AI is driving durable demand for security across networking, SASE, and security operations. Customers are investing in higher-performance products to support AI infrastructure and are seeking platforms that reduce operational complexity as their environments become more distributed.
Build global, think local
At the same time, Fortinet has always followed the ethos that cybercrime cannot be beaten in isolation. Cybercriminals now operate within an interwoven web akin to multi-national organisations. To have a chance to beat malicious actors, close cooperation between public and private organisations is critical. Fortinet is proud to be part of numerous collaborative efforts to address cybercrime: we are a founding member of the World Economic Forum Centre for Cybersecurity, a contributor to its Partnership Against Cybercrime (PAC), and a founding member of the Cybercrime Atlas amongst others.
This global interconnected outlook is teamed with a big focus on local presence. We recognise that while cyberthreats are global, organisational challenges vary greatly between countries and regions. A big part of our success is the fact that we invest in and are physically present in all countries we operate in. We know that building local support infrastructure is of huge benefit to our customers.
We are well established in Western Europe in particular, having made numerous strategic investments across the region in recent years. These include a €40 million data centre in Madrid, a €50 million innovation hub including data centre in Frankfurt, a 12,000m² European distribution centre in Almere, the Netherlands, and a new $50+ million investment in a strategic hub office in the heart of London. These investments reflect Fortinet’s continued growth and commitment in the region.
A trusted security partner in volatile times
Today’s organisations operate in a permanently shifting, volatile environment. Dependence on third parties introduces additional risks to organisations. This is why vendor financial stability is so important. Selecting a cybersecurity partner is not a solely technical decision, but a long-term strategic investment that determines an organisation’s resilience to shocks. Fortinet’s 26-year history built on solid foundations of considered growth and careful investments offers the stable, yet innovative framework required for the next wave of digital transformation driven by AI. Our business resilience and financial security signals that we have the resources to innovate alongside our customers for the long haul, including responding to regulatory and changing business requirements. Enterprises are making foundational investments in their infrastructures and need a partner who can afford to invest in innovation while maintaining robust, consistent security performance.
Fortinet’s track record of balancing high financial performance with best-in-class research and development offers customers certainty amidst constant turmoil. By building on solid foundations, Fortinet is a future-proof partner that works tirelessly to secure the today and the tomorrow. As the industry continues to evolve toward platform-based security architectures, the organisations that prioritise resilience and financial staying power will be the ones best positioned to protect critical networks and data from the evolving cyber threats.
