Belgian police on Friday arrested an intern at NATO’s strategic headquarters of the Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE,) suspecting her of “spying on behalf of a third country and of being a member of a criminal organization,” the Belgian Federal Prosecutor Office wrote in a statement on Saturday.

The intern, a Canadian national of Chinese origins, “had come to the attention” of the security services of SHAPE, NATO’s strategic command for operations in Mons, Belgium.

Belgian authorities searched her home and office on Thursday.

Belgian prosecutors gave no further details on what the woman is suspected of.
