Contents, a Milan-based enterprise execution platform that orchestrates AI agents, enterprise knowledge and approval workflows for global brands, has acquired Balio, a Barcelona-based enterprise company specialising in corporate financial wellbeing.
The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. This deal represents Contents’ sixth acquisition and further advances its buy-and-build strategy, which it has been implementing across Europe for several years.
“Balio is our sixth acquisition, but more importantly it is another execution of a strategy we have been building for years. We acquire enterprise software companies with trusted customer relationships and accelerate them through our AI infrastructure. Balio has an exceptional team, strong customers and a product with enormous growth potential. Our role now is to help Balio scale faster than it ever could on its own,” said Massimiliano Squillace, Founder and CEO of Contents.
Founded in 2021 by Massimiliano Squillace, Contents is an enterprise AI orchestration platform that connects multiple LLMs, enterprise knowledge and business workflows. The company states that it transforms proprietary company information into AI-powered business applications, thereby helping global enterprises automate marketing, content localisation, knowledge management and other mission-critical processes.
Contents is model-agnostic by design and integrates Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Mistral. The company maintains a 100% retention rate of enterprise clients, generating over 500,000 AI outputs monthly, and provides services to top enterprises in fashion, retail, hospitality, and financial sectors.
Contents is backed by Thomson Reuters Ventures, Alkemia Capital, SparkLabs and Qatar Development Bank, with €21.8 million ($25 million) raised to date. Earlier this year, in February, Contents closed a €5.9 million ($7 million) Series B extension round.
Its five previous acquisitions across Europe include Scribeur in France, Lowpost in Spain, and Traduzione.it, Scribox and Zulla in Italy. The Italian company applies the same strategy across all six of its acquisitions, which involves acquiring software businesses with established enterprise relationships, integrating its proprietary AI capabilities into their products and operations, and accelerating their growth, scalability and profitability. With these acquisitions, Contents aims to extend the group’s AI platform across an established customer base.
Founded in 2019 by Sergi Benet, Guillem Roig, and Gerard Bernal, Balio helps companies provide employees with personalised financial education, tools, practical guidance and content designed to improve financial awareness and wellbeing.
By integrating Contents’ AI infrastructure, Balio will strengthen its product, personalise user experiences at scale and expand its multilingual capabilities. It aims to deliver more value to clients without proportionally increasing its cost base, in each case in accordance with applicable data protection requirements and existing client agreements.
Balio’s clients will gain access to Contents’ broader capabilities, including content orchestration and localisation to enterprise knowledge management and automated workflows. And Contents’ international commercial network will support Balio’s expansion beyond Spain and into additional European markets.
“Joining Contents opens a completely new phase for Balio. We will continue to develop our vision and serve our clients with the same focus, while gaining access to advanced AI technology, international distribution and the resources of a larger European group. This will allow us to innovate faster, improve our platform and expand into new markets,” said Sergi Benet and Guillem Roig, co-founders of Balio.
Balio has established trusted relationships with leading Spanish enterprises, which is one of the most valuable assets in enterprise software. With the acquisition, those relationships become part of Contents’ enterprise footprint.
According to Contents, AI will increasingly be distributed through the software platforms that enterprises already use. Rather than replacing those platforms, it aims to transform them.
Spain has emerged as one of Contents’ most strategic European markets, with the Madrid team, the Barcelona office, and two of its six acquisitions in the country now completed.
The current Balio team will continue to be a key part of the business, collaborating with Contents to develop the platform, support existing clients, and drive the next phase of growth.
Contents notes that it will preserve Balio’s brand, expertise and market positioning, while progressively integrating the company into its technology and commercial ecosystem.
